20220615 Talking with Chua

After midnight today, outside a 7-11 convenience store on Lulu Island, holding my paper bag filled two submarine sandwiches and a bottle of pomegranate iced tea, I met a strange fellow surnamed Chua. He calls himself a "Tsinoy"—a Chinese-Filipino. He asked me, "Are you a Mestizo?" I said, "Yes." His English was mixed with bits of strangely accented Tagalog. He said that he came to Canada at age 5. We talking about Tsinoy surnames like Chua and Tan, I said that my surname Medrano is a name of a famous circus that goes around Europe. Chua looks like a Hispanic Chinese, with a moustache. He knows a bit of Spanish. I didn't ask him if he speaks Hokkien.
