A strange behavioural difference exists between Mandarin people and Cantonese. Esperanto appeals to Mandarin sensibilities. My Cantonese neighbours would rather follow my Anglophile cousin Eve, who is an ice hockey fan. My neighbours' kids learn ice hockey to signal trust in my cousin Eve, who is a Protestant Baptist. Meanwhile, Eastern philosophical traditions still hold sway amongst most Mandarin people.
