I think that Mama is not Oriental, European, or Hispanic, but is an American who speaks a lot of Tagalog. She has a two-faced attitude about English. On one hand, she like others wants to promote it. On the other hand, she finds English unaesthetic. Perhaps, the unaesthetic comes from the distorted spellings, or perhaps, the corrupted sound. I was not alive in the 1950s, so I think that English is not really important. Some Japanese think that English just belongs to the Shōwa Era (1926-1989).
